Humor: The light side of life...

Monastery Life

A young monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to helping the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand.

He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript. So, the new monk goes to the head abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up! In fact, that error would be continued in all of the subsequent copies.

The head monk, says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son."

He goes down into the dark caves underneath the monastery where the original manuscripts are held as archives in a locked vault that hasn't been opened for hundreds of years. Hours go by and nobody sees the old abbot.

So, the young monk gets worried and goes down to look for him. He sees him banging his head against the wall and wailing, "We missed the " R " ! , we missed the " R " !"

His forehead is all bloody and bruised and he is crying uncontrollably. The young monk asks the old abbot, "What's wrong, father?"

With A choking voice, the old abbot replies, "The word was...

The Old Phone ... How Do You Spell Fix?

When I was quite young, my father had one of the first telephones in our neighborhood. I remember the polished, old case fastened to the wall. The shiny receiver hung on the side of the box. I was too little to reach the telephone, but used to listen with fascination when my mother talked to it.

Then I discovered that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived anamazing person. Her name was "Information Please" and there was nothing she did not know. Information Please could supply anyone's number and the correct time.

My personal experience with the genie-in-a-bottle came one day while my mother was visiting a neighbor. Amusing myself at the tool bench in the basement, I whacked my finger with a hammer, the pain was terrible, but there seemed no point in crying because there was no one home to give sympathy.

I walked around the house sucking my throbbing finger, finally arriving at the stairway. The telephone! Quickly, I ran for the footstool in the parlor and dragged it to the landing. Climbing up, I unhooked the receiver in the parlor and held it to my ear. "Information, please" I said into the mouthpiece just above my head. A click or two and a small clear voice spoke into my ear. "Information."

"I hurt my finger..." I wailed into the phone, the tears came readily enough now that I had an audience.

"Isn't your mother home?" came the question.

"Nobody's home but me," I blubbered.

"Are you bleeding?" the voice asked.

"No," I replied. "I hit my finger with the hammer and it hurts."

"Can you open the icebox?" she asked. I said I could.

"Then chip off a little bit of ice and hold it to your finger," said the voice.

After that, I called "Information Please" for everything. I asked her for help with my geography, and she told me where Philadelphia was. She helped me with my math. She told me my pet chipmunk that I had caught in the park just the day before, would eat fruit and nuts.

Then, there was the time Petey, our pet canary, died. I called, Information Please," and told her the sad story. She listened, and then said things grown-ups say to soothe a child. But I was not consoled. I asked her, "Why is it that birds should sing so beautifully and bring joy to all families, only to end up as a heap of feathers on the bottom of a cage?"

She must have sensed my deep concern, for she said quietly, "Paul always remember that there are other worlds to sing in. "Somehow I felt better. Another day I was on the telephone, "Information Please."

"Information," said in the now familiar voice. "How do I spell fix?" I asked.

All this took place in a small town in the Pacific Northwest . When I was nine years old, we moved across the country to Boston. I missed my friend very much. "Information Please" belonged in that old wooden box back home and I somehow never thought of trying the shiny new phone that sat on the table in the hall. As I grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood conversations never really left me. Often, in moments of doubt and perplexity I would recall the serene sense of security I had then. I appreciated now how patient, understanding, and kind she was to have spent her time on a little boy.

A few years later, on my way west to college, my plane put down in Seattle. I had about a half-hour or so between planes. I spent 15 minutes or so on the phone with my sister, who lived there now. Then without thinking what I was doing, I dialed my hometown operator and said, "Information Please. "Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I knew so well." Information." I hadn't planned this, but I heard myself saying, "Could you please tell me how to spell fix?"

There was a long pause. Then came the soft spoken answer, "I guess your finger must have healed by now." I laughed, "So it's really you," I said. "I wonder if you have any idea how much you meant to me during that time."

I wonder," she said, "if you know how much your call meant to me. I never had any children and I used to look forward to your calls." I told her how often I had thought of her over the years and I asked if I could call her again when I came back to visit my sister.

"Please do", she said. "Just ask for Sally."

Three months later I was back in Seattle. A different voice answered, "Information." I asked for Sally.

"Are you a friend?" she said.

"Yes, a very old friend," I answered.

"I'm sorry to have to tell you this," she said. "Sally had been working part-time the last few years because she was sick. She died five weeks ago." Before I could hang up she said, "Wait a minute, did you say your name was Paul?" "Yes." I answered.

"Well, Sally left a message for you. She wrote it down in case you called. Let me read it to you."

The note said, "Tell him there are other worlds to sing in. He'll know what I mean."

I thanked her and hung up. I knew what Sally meant.

Never underestimate the impression you may make on others and whose life you have touched today!

Tuning Your Thoughts for Sure Success

It’s extremely common to look at our beliefs and insist that they’re facts… unassailable truths.

This shows how little insight we usually have into our own mental processes. It’s no disgrace. That’s just the way we are. However, it’s important to recognize that this behavior is one of the main reasons so many find it hard to change anything in their life.

You’ve heard the Biblical phrase, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

It’s an absolute certainty that the truth can make you free. But just knowing it is not enough; you’ll also have to accept it. And act on it.

How many people know that saving money, rather than spending it, will provide a secure retirement? Most people know that. But only a small minority actually ever does anything about it.

And the same is true in other areas.

Why Gratitude is the Key to Getting Anything You Want

When it comes to worldly affairs, the saying, "Seeing is believing" reigns supreme.

When you *see* someone accomplish something, you start to *believe* in that person's ability. If a product delivers what it promises, you then believe that it works. When you see a "formula" yield positive results, you begin to believe in it.

Evidence is essential in order for people to believe. This has led to the saying, "I'll believe it when I see it." The proof is in the pudding.

But in spiritual affairs, the opposite is true. "Believing is seeing." If you believe first, you will see that thing that you believe in manifest itself in front of your very eyes. That's a testament to the awesome power of belief. This has led to another saying: "I'll see it when I believe it."

However, for most people, believing *is* the problem.

That's why most people who lack conviction when they recite affirmations, for instance, are missing the secret ingredient that's necessary to materialize their dreams.

Think Right Now! Series:

The highest motivator of all

As you better know, there are 22 core mental patterns that drive everything that we do from the time that we are born till our final breath.

In the motivation pattern, there are three PRIMARY drivers of all immediate action (or inaction).

The first one is desperation...

This motivator kicks in when you absolutely positively have to do something. In long-term scenarios this motivator kicks in when your doctor says, for example, "If you don't stop (or start) doing XYZ, then you aren't going to be here in another six months."

That's desperation... And it is a strong motivator.

The trouble is, it takes desperation to get most people to do what they should do just to get by. It takes a tragedy or impending tragedy to get the average person to get going on their most important priorities.

Here are the PRIMARY areas of a person's life:

* Social relationships
* Family relationships
* Career
* Financial
* Physical health and fitness
* Spiritual
* Education
* Mental health/happiness

TASK: Take just a couple seconds for each item above, and ask yourself if you feel truly fulfilled, complete and satisfied in this area.

TASK: Look at each item above again and ask yourself if you are moving in the direction you would like to be moving in this area of your life.

If you are not fulfilled and are not moving in the right direction in more than a few of these areas, you are probably a person who, much of the time, is driven by desperation, meaning that it takes agitation or a tragedy to get you moving on important decisions and actions. For example, in the financial area, it might take a bankruptcy or the loss of a job to get you to think about your finances. An example of a person motivated by desperation in the social and family arena is if your words, decisions and/or actions cause you and your family, friends, acquaintances or co-workers a great deal of emotional pain.

The second primary motivator is inspiration...

This is a higher level of motivation.

When a person has INspiration, they are moved to take action to get an outcome they DO WANT in the short term versus being moved to avoid an outcome they DON'T WANT (desperation).

This kind of motivation happens when you set a goal and you've identified what you'll get if you achieve the goal. This can be very powerful. A typical example of this is when somebody tries to drop a whole lot of extra phat in a hurry for specific events or various times of year, like weddings, high school reunions or for bikini season.

But a higher motivator is purpose...

Purpose, or mission, is the highest level of motivation.

While both inspiration and desperation can force you to pop a breath mint before a meeting, it is purpose that makes you take care of your teeth by brushing and flossing everyday. Purpose in ensures that you are always prepared for anything that comes your way.

See the difference?

Fear of failing a test can force you to study all night long. That is desperation.

Spending extra time working on a project that you truly enjoy and/or if there is a short-term and very desired benefit is inspiration.

But when your words and actions are all directed by a deep sense of purpose, keeping your eye always on multiple benefits and on multiple positive outcomes, being driven by long-term results, long-term implications and by legacy is what separates the average and good from the truly great.

When your thoughts and your core mental patterns are influenced by purpose and mission, you have true POWER over yourself... so you never need willpower and you will be hundreds of times less likely to be victimized by others.

This power transcends IQ, color, who your parents are, where you grew up... It is the highest power you could have.

6 "Life or Death" Factors For Any Website!

Not a week goes by that half a dozen people don't ask me what separates a great, money-making website from a bad one. In response, I surveyed of a number of different websites, large and small, to find what they share in common to make them so successful. With few exceptions, every extraordinarily great website contained the following elements. Testimonials

Every great website has testimonials from satisfied customers. These testimonials help set the potential customer's mind at ease that the products or services sold online will perform as promised.

Truly great testimonials not only endorse the product, but clearly state how the product increased sales, saved money, or benefited previous buyers in very specific and tangible ways. Testimonials should present real benefits others can readily identify with, understand and, more importantly, want those same results for themselves!

Headlines

Headlines capture visitors' attention and get them involved in the website. How do you read the newspaper? If you read like most people the headlines first catch your attention and determine whether you'll actually read a story. Similarly headlines on a website determine whether visitors get involved in the information or surf away never to return.

My own experience has shown that the proper headlines can easily and quickly double, triple, or even quadruple a website's sales almost overnight.

Bullets

Bullets communicate various and subtle bits of information about a product or service without making readers plow through paragraphs of information to get to the meat of a website's offering. Bullets arouse interest, build excitement, and convey a lot of information very quickly to time-starved web surfers.

Bonuses

Every great website offers bonuses to people who buy, apply or fill out a form. Nothing induces someone to do business with you online like offering them something extra for taking the action you want. Offering a bonus report, tape, extended membership, extra quantities of product at a deep discount, coupons, or just about anything makes people more willing to go ahead with the purchase decision.

Guarantees

Everyone takes a risk whenever they buy anything from anyone. The risk centers on whether or not the product or service will perform as promised. In a retail store most people feel pretty confident the store will still exist if they need to make a return or exchange in a few days. On the web, however, that risk in making a purchase seems much higher than in the "offline" world.

Every great website makes a point of specifically telling customers about their return policy and truly exceptional sites offer 100%, no-questions-asked, money-back guarantees. People rarely take advantage of such guarantees and I have personally seen a website's sales increase by 45% just by extending the guarantee period an additional 30 days.

Phone numbers

Every great website has a phone number with a real live human being on the other end who can answer questions and provide product support.

So there you have it! With few exceptions this represents the formula for creating or identifying a truly great website.
