Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with those expensive double-pane energy-efficient kind.
Yesterday, I got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that the windows had been installed a whole year ago and I hadn't paid for them yet.
Hellloooo? Now just because I'm blonde doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid. So I told him just exactly what his fast-talking sales guy had told ME last year... namely, that in just ONE YEAR these windows would pay for themselves!
“Helllooooo"? (I told him). "It's been a year"
There was only silence at the other end of the line, so I finally just hung up....
He hasn't called back, probably too embarrassed about forgetting the guarantee they made me.
Bet he won't underestimate a blonde anymore.

What They Are, Why They Are There

The Long Tail...
I don't recommend books, never have. Well, I guess I have
mentioned a book or two by Seth Godin, but nothing has
impacted me as significantly as Chris Anderson's new book,
"The Long Tail"...
Our staff and I read them all, of course, along with
countless blogs, zines and feeds. We sift the kernels out
and try to make the best recommendations possible to SBIers
so that they don't have to do all that time-consuming stuff.
After all, they have businesses to run, lives to lead. :-)
And ditto for you, our partner-in-sales. My job is not to
tell you to read this or that great book. It's to suck the
marrow out of all that's good and drop the rest, then give
you the information, strategies and tools you need to thrive.
But this time, a book for the ages has come along. A book
you should read in its entirety. And if you have any doubt
about the ability of the "little guy" to compete in this
ever-more-complex and fragmenting Internet, multiply all
that I say in this article by ten! :-)
The Long Tail, written by Chris Anderson (Executive Editor
of WIRED magazine) is a book that you simply must read, and
then re-read until more pages are dog-eared than not...

The Long Tail is, quite frankly, where the business world is
headed. And small business has a HUGE role "out there in
the long tail." Figure out where you fit into the long tail
and how to use it to grow (or start) your small business.
I had the honor to interview Chris Anderson. That one-on-

business world. It elaborates upon why the long tail is so
important for the future of your small business and how you
should pro-act (not react) to all that is happening.
