Can visualizing success ever hurt you?
by Mike Brescia

You've heard it. Probably even said it yourself.

"See yourself as already having reached your goal."

We've all been told that to succeed, you must "see" yourself reaching your goal... the putt going in the cup, as a muscle man with veins sticking out all over, with 6- pack abs, with the trophy wife or Mr. Right, driving the luxury sports car, the mansion on the hill, the servants, your name up in lights, etc.

But our research shows that, while beginning with the end in mind is good, strange as it seems on the surface, an abundance of this kind of visualizing can actually hurt your chances of success...

You see, the average person (average because they don't routinely do what super happy and "sùccessful" people do), try to conjure up images of themselves with their final outcomes and simply can't keep those images clear.

So at the first mistake, the first bad decision, the first lazy moment, "POOF" the image that was only lightly impressed upon the subcönscious mind is gone... and so the all important self-image as a "succëss" in that area of life never gets impressed in the mind.

Here's why. Visualizing is NOT something that happens only during some predetermined time when you've decided to sit down, close your eyes and begin some visualizing or imagining session.

No. Images and sounds and feelings are happening in your mind ALL THE TIME, EVERY SECOND, not just once in a while when you choose to do it. You don't have to choose to visualize because it's going on every minute of every day of your life whether you want it to or not.

You are doing it now - this very minute.

These words are conjuring up pictures and movies and soundtracks and emotions in your mind/body.

The process of daily living is the process of "practicing" who you are to become next year and 20 years from now. That is why "change" is difficult.

You are who you've "practiced" being over many years.

We all nod our heads knowingly when someone hits it big in the entertainment world and we learn that their "overnight success" was actually the result of many years of honing their skills in order to be ready for their big break.

We accept that as truth that they had to pay their dues.

But when it comes to ourselves, people often forget. They don't want to pay any dues.

They "see" their desired outcomes by doing a few half- hearted visualization exercises one night or a few times. And when they make a mistake or make a bad decision, they say visualization doesn't work.

Yet it is working on them every minute of every day.

Because who you are today is the result of your repetitive visualizations and imaginings spanning the years and decades of your life.

We are all creations of our mental habits.

Sure, chance meetings will occur that could send you in the wrong directions.

Sure, accidents happen that you didn't cause.

Yes of course, decision that other people make can affect your entire future.

But you always have the power of choice...

What you choose to do in any situation will always be based on your core beliefs, attitudes and emotions in the moment. And those beliefs, attitudes and emotions are usually based on the kinds of imagined mental pictures, movies and conversations you've been having for years.

Bottom line?

You are always in control... even when you feel "out of control."

If you have some big dream that would change your life for the better (you BETTER have some dreams!), if all you do is think about what life will be like AFTER you achieve the goal, you will probably fail.

You read it right.

Visualize having your goal and you will fail.

If you want to succeed...

...Then you must see yourself taking the actions that will make you and your life that way and most importantly, you must imagine, visualize and feel yourself enjoying the process, enjoying taking the actions that will transport you there. The automatic thoughts that "pop in" without warning and without effort must be of you succeëding, not only at the end but every minute, every hour, with ever decision and action taken.

THAT is the kind of visualizing and imagining that the most succëssful people do.

Yes, champions have "positive" images, pictures and soundtracks running through their minds ALL THE TIME.

But the images are not only of the final outcome.

The images are of the doing, of the practice, the work, each brush stroke, of each step, of each word said, of each phone number dialed, of each shovel filled, of each swipe of the ax blade.

Remember the Chinese Proverb, "The journey of 1,000 miles starts with a single step."

And I'll add that every succëss journey contains EVERY step, not just the first or the last.

Every step.

Every day you must take actions to make your dreams cöme true.

And if you are to succeed in reaching all or many of your big dreams, you must enjoy the actions. You must think positively. Life is going to throw lots of challenges and those horrible "problems" at you.

They are all just steps... predictable parts of the journey. They should not surprise you when they happen. They should be expected, anticipated and handled as a matter of course.

To me, stress is what happens when you are surprised by the challenges that come up.

OH MY! A problem! "Oh no!" is the refrain from most people.

But what did you think? That there were not going to be challenges and problems along the way to reaching your most coveted prizes?

Really?

Life is not like the lottëry - where you are a pauper one day and become fïlthy rïch the next. Life is an endless process of gradual (and yes, sometimes big) steps toward what you visualize the most.

So you see?

Visualizing happens constantly.

Even if you don't think you do it. Even if you swear that you don't. You do.

And it paves the road you travel on every day. You see it, then you do what you saw. You imagine how you'll feel in situations and then you feel those ways that you imagined when similar situations arise.

That is why, as we create every Think Right Now program they all have statements in them that program you to love the steps required to reach the goals you have.

You'll hear in the programs that "I LOVE to exercise" that "I LOVE eating healthy foods" You'll hear that you LOVE doing all the things that make your life a masterpiece, not that you "put up with" the things that success requires or that they just "happen."

You do what you LOVE to do in life...

...even when what you love to do is destructive.

You must "see" yourself, not just "having" achieved a goal and not only taking the actions...

You must see yourself taking the right actions, loving those actions and finally achieving your predetermined outcomes.

Do that and you will have increased your chances of süccess in everything you do.

THAT is what winners do.

Sinking in?

I hope so. Because this is a principle of life, not my opinion.

The most successfül people, and the happiest people have these unconscious patterns of emotion running through their minds 24 hours a day. It is who they are at the deepest levels.

So I güarantee that whenever you fall on your face, whenever you quit before you succeed, whenever you explode in anger... I güarantee that you saw it before you did it.

Güarantee it 100%.

Becuase it is a principle. It's how your mind works.

Thought - Images, sounds, movies, smells, feelings.

Then comes the outer action based on those mental functions.

So if you want to set goals and reach them... if you want that health goal, that weight goal, to get rid of that rotten habit, the financial goal, social goal, career goal, spiritual goal...

...then your moment by moment visualizations, your hourly imaginings, the images that get flashed up on your mental screen without your conscious effort must be of you taking every single step every single day toward the realization of your goals and dreams.

And you must imagine enjoying each step.

Or else your automatic, normal process of visualization during your everyday life will be hurting instead of helping you.

I love you all!
