Life is funny.

Some people get "discovered" when they're kids and become famous Hollywood stars, some fall into all kinds of lucky breaks, while others work hard their whole lives, save a few bucks, always doing what's right and just and they get killed by a drunk driver, leaving 5 kids under 12, a wife and a huge mortgage payment.

What is that?

Nobody said life was fair, right?

Some win the genetic lottery with good looks, smarts or natural talent up the wazoo but blow it, never reaching anywhere near their potential for achievement and happiness and peace of mind.

I preach about the right beliefs, the proper attitudes and taking proven actions to help you get where you want to go in life, but that doesn't give you guarantees of fame, wealth, happiness, fitness, education...

Because it can all be over in an instant.

So why try so hard at anything?

If life is so fleeting, why beat yourself up working instead of playing all day?

I believe that each of us is judged by a standard that asks what did our life mean? What will your legacy be? What value did we give? Will playing all day give you happiness?

When we step off the curb and that lunatic behind the wheel steals our gift of life, the greatest tragedy isn't the TV shows we will miss from this point on, it's that you won't be there for your family, your community, your friends, your country, your planet. think right now series

While you are here, your value isn't in how many pitchers you downed with "the boys" at the local tavern, it's what you made of yourself that you could share with others.

It's what you learned that you could pass along.

What are most famous people famous for anyhow?

Right! What they learned, created, taught and the feelings they gave to others.

When you teach someone, whether it's your child, someone else's child, a student, a co-worker or whoever how to do something, you helped them grow. When you help people become more and feel great, your life means more.

The more you give and teach the more you matter.

So even if today is your last, know that you will not be measured by what you bought for yourself. If you are in debt up to your ears and croak, you've passed on debt. think right now series

Prepare for the rainy days. They will arrive! Will you be ready?

Your life is a measure of what you have learned, sacrificed, created, taught, given. Think ahead. Prepare. think right now series

And don't despair. When you have given the most, you have received the most, too. If not materially, then inside. Just because you aren't a mogul, doesn't make you a failure. Most people aren't wealthy. Lucky that it doesn't take money to be happy, eh? Remember that 99% of who you are as a person cannot be seen or touched. think right now series

When I go, the greatest thing I can imagine is that more and more people will say they couldn't have imagined living without me and/or the things I've created or things I've taught them. Ever since seeing the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" back in December of '89, I've tried to steer my life in the direction of giving more. I have not been perfect by any means, but generally speaking, I've been moving in the direction of learning, creating, teaching, giving and sacrificing.

But what I've gotten in return! think right now series

The sacrifices have been worth it. Because what I've sacrificed is, to me, worth way less that what I've gotten in return.

Most people won't sacrifice anything at all.

Give up smoking? Bah!

Give up gambling? Horrors!

Give up Cheetos? Are you nuts?

Invest 10% of what I make? Can't be done!

Most people see discipline and any self-sacrifice as a bad thing.

But it's what gives you true happiness and it takes away the bad kind of stress, the kind you get when you don't do what you know you should have done, what you could have done and what you wished you had done.
